A picture posted on social media has placed a damper on timely decorations for halloween in Meade County. The Kentucky Innocence Project appeared Wednesday (10/20) in Meade County Circuit Court with a client and posted a picture of halloween decorations displayed in the front lobby of the courthouse on the group’s Facebook page.
The display of a skeleton in a wooden electric chair surrounded by various halloween themed decorations was not meant to be in bad taste but to celebrate the upcoming holiday by county employees, who typically decorate for other holidays in the same space.
Supporters of the group posted several negative comments about the display and county leaders and generated numerous phone calls to various offices at the county courthouse.
The Administrative Office of the Courts advised the County Judge Executive Gerry Lynn of an upcoming court trial involving capital punishment which the display might disrupt.
Judge Executive Lynn told WVIH.com News the display was never meant to be a distraction or harmful. He said the county did not want to interfere with the due process of the Adminstrative Office of the Courts, who uses the county owned facility.
Workers removed the display of employee donated items late Friday (10/21) to ensure that the display would not interfere with next week’s court docket. Judge Executive Lynn said the situation was a case bad timing.
