
After a long campaign Republican nominee Donald Trump carried the majority vote in Kentucky and Indiana Tuesday (11/8) night.
In Meade County, Trump received 8,660 (70.80%) votes over Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton, who received 3,026 (24.74%) votes. Libertarian Gary Johnson received 333 (2.72%) votes while Independent Evan McMillian received 107 (0.87%) of the vote for United States President.
In local state races, 27th District State Representative Democratic incumbent Jeff Greer edged out Republican Rachelle Frazier for a second time with 6,581 (53.85%) votes over her 5,641 (46.15%). Greer defeated Frazier with 9,056 (53.84%) votes over 7,763 (46.16%) votes.
In the 5th District State Senate race, Meade County voters favored Democratic native Leslie Stith with 6,169 (51.44%) votes over 5,823 (48.56%) for Republican Stephen Meredith. Across the district, Meredith carried the majority with 31,096 (63.33%) votes over Stith’s 18,006 (36.67%) votes across six counties.
Incumbent Democrat Dean Schamore received a total of 10,712 (55.19%) over 8,698 (44.81%) Republican hopeful TW Shortt for the 10th District State Representative seat across three counties.
The new term of council members for the city of Muldraugh are: Russell Cowins 166 (13.79%); Robert Mattingly 164 (13.62%); Shelia Cowins 162 (13.46%); Cory Dresel 149 (12.38%); Jerry Noel 133 (11.05%); and Curtis Kelley 126 (10.47%) of the votes.
The Brandenburg City Council will retain all of their incumbent members except for Christopher Hulsey, who received 510 (14.43%) votes. Hulsey will replace out going long time council member Carol Nelson.
Ekron City Commission will re-seat Corey Trent 33 (45.83%) votes and Joyce McHolan 32 (44.44%). Kevin Wethington 4 (5.56%) votes and Robert Wilkins 3 (4.17%) votes were write-in candidates.
Meade County Clerk Judy Jordan said that a few minor issues were noted during the morning as precincts opened. Her staff had to print more paper ballots due to the demand from fear of election tampering fueled by social media. Voter turnout was estimated just over 58.55%, as 12,382 votes were cast. Meade County has 21,149 registered voters. of that number, 11,008 Democrats, 8,320 Republicans, 1,169 Other, 589 Independents, and 52 Libertarians. The voting pool is noted as 10,172 males to 10,977 female voters in the county.
