
The Brandenburg City Council met during their regular monthly meeting Monday (11/14) night approving a one time employee salary adjustment.
The council approved a one time adjustment of $550 for full time employees and $150 adjustment for part time employees. They also approved a one time appreciation gift of $100 to four members of the Citizens On Patrol program.
In other business, the council approved a resolution for the 2016 Lincoln Trail Hazard Mitigation and Flood Plan Update. During the departmental reports, City Clerk Amy Haynes reported that she is currently working to secure a audit firm to conduct the city audit that is due by February. The firm who has conducted the audit has went out of business within the past few months. Haynes said she is still awaiting other proposals from potential vendors. Police Chief Scotty Singleton read a letter from Meade County School Superintendent Dr. John Millay thanking him and police department for the positive working relationship with the students and the school system.
Mayor Ronnie Joyner reported to the council that the Donna Drive lift station project was complete and full operational and working as expected. He also reported that the new city side walk from City Hall to the near the Shopping Park Center is now complete. He said the previous administration estimated the cost of the project at $160,000 but the completed project came under budget at $78,000.
Mayor Joyner also reported work on the new downtown RV park in Riverfront Park has been suspended indefinitely due to issues with permitting in a flood plain. He said that work on the renovation of Nickel Park had began as crews are working to shore up a corner of the basketball surface with plans to resurface the court with concrete.
City workers have already began work on this year’s Christmas By The River in the Riverfront Park. The annual event will kick-off the holiday season with a formal parking lighting and fireworks at dusk on Saturday (11/26). Santa and Mrs Clause will be in attendance and will be available to take pictures with children. This year’s displays will feature two new lighted displays to the park full of lights.
Mayor Joyner reported to the council that if negotiations continue well, the embattled Confederate monument could find a new home in Brandenburg after all. The mayor has called a special called meeting Wednesday (11/16) at 12 Noon at City Hall to discuss the issue or relocating the monument.
