The Muldraugh City Council approved vehicle requests during a special called meeting Monday (11/21) night.
Council members approved the purchase of a new police vehicle at state bid pricing to replace a 2017 model which had been wrecked. Mayor Joseph Noon said that the insurance has provided their settlement which was a total of $19,416. He said that $13,000 of the amount would pay off the loan on that vehicle and then the remaining $6,000 would be used as a down payment on a replacement vehicle. Police Chief Dale Harp is still awaiting bids to be submitted from area dealers to be evaluated.
The council voted approved allowing the police department’s pickup truck to be used by the city Code Enforcement officer and the current Code Enforcement Jeep be used by the City Fire Chief.
Councilman Russell Cowins made a motion to pay a $1 per hour salary increase for Police Chief Harp because of his outstanding work to run the department after a patrolman resigned his position, leaving only Harp to police the town. The council members present unanimously approved the motion. The process is underway to hire new officers for the department.
