
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court worked on how to fill staffing needs in several departments during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday (1/10) night.
At the beginning of the meeting, Judge Executive Gerry Lynn recognized Solid Waste and Recycling Center Director Mark Gossett for his outstanding work and dedication over the past 11 years. Gossett retired from his position and is credited with turning around a once mismanaged facility to now one of the model solid waste facilities in the state.
County EMS Director Mike Wise reported to the Fiscal Court a resignation of a full time paramedic within the past few days. Wise said that schedules adjusted to fill the vacancy but another person is needed. Toward the end of the meeting magistrates recessed to a half hour closed session to discuss personnel issues. Courts members returned to approve a motion for department directors to advertise open positions for a paramedic at EMS and laborers at the County Road Department. After their discussion of the situation, magistrates decided to keep staffing the same and monitor the needs at Planning and Zoning office and the Solid Waste and Recycling Center. Judge Executive Gerry Lynn said that the staffing needs at Solid Waste would be reevaluated after a six month period.
In other business, Megan Stith, President and CEO of United Way of Central Kentucky presented information and a brief overview of the non profit’s new 2-1-1 that provides local citizens a single access point to community resources in Meade, Hardin, Breckinridge, Grayson and Larue counties. The number is staffed around the clock.
Fiscal Court approved the proposed budgets and salaries for the County Clerk and Sheriff. Magistrates gave approval to support the City of Radcliff in a venture attract the replacement Veteran Hospital to 50 acres of land in the Mill Pond Industrial Park.
Before adjourning the meeting, Judge Lynn asked magistrates if they had comments on the trash collection. Lynn said he had field several calls form residents. Third District Magistrate Billy Sipes said that his district and possibly some Sixth District residents were skipped over due to the snow fall causing their trash not to be picked up. After some discussion, Judge Executive Lynn said that he attempt to get the Santek district manager to visit the next regular meeting.
