The Ekron City Commission met during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday (2/7) and worked through several agenda items.
Commissioners received information from Meade County Chief Deputy Jason Graham related to the neighborhood watch program. Graham’s recommendation to city leaders was to designate a specific leader to over see the program and will keep the volunteer members engaged. He urged the volunteers to write down any suspicious activity including a license plate number if possible so there is documentation in case a criminal act was observed around the specific area of town. He encouraged anyone who has information to call 911 and report it or if drug activity is observed to call the sheriff’s department’s anonymous drug tip line at 270-422-HOPE (4673).
In other business, commissioners discussed and then decided to abandon efforts to install speed bumps due the increase costs of maintenance for the newer removable bumps. Commissioners tabled the issue of installation of cameras around the city until more technical information is gathered for the next meeting. Commissioner Rob Wilkins recused himself from discussions related to tree removal service since he had submitted a bid request.
Commissioners reviewed a total of four bids and after through discussion, approved Wilkin’s bid of $300 to remove two trees for the city. The commission approved a resolution to adopt a update for the Lincoln Trail Regional Hazard and Flood Mitigation Plan update.
At the end of meeting Mayor Gwynne Ison thanked Rodney Kelly for hauling the new picnic table at the pavilion.
