
Members of the Muldraugh City Council worked through a easy agenda during their regular monthly meeting Monday (3/13) night.
With Council members Corey Dresel and Shelia Cowins absent, the council heard comments South Main Street resident Justin Morgan who voice concern regarding sewer line repair work that will come close to his mobile home. He wasn’t sure if a proper easement was along his property but is willing to allow an easement if the city is willing to repair anything that is damaged during the work. City leaders will review the situation.
Councilman Curtis Kelley made a motion to have the City Clerk stop preparing a monthly overtime report for the council. The action was seconded by Councilman Russell Cowins, commented the report was requested because in the past work orders were not completed to keep an accurate accounting of the overtime hours worked. The council voted in favor of the motion.
Police Chief Dale Harp reported Officer Tim Childs is currently doing well in police academy training in Richmond. Childs has several weeks ahead before his training will be complete. Chief Harp announced Jay Burke as the newest addition to the department. Burke is already academy trained and will need to update training hours. Burke was previously employed by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.
Chief Harp requested council to deem several items as surplus to allow them to be sold at auction. Items include a 2012 Chevrolet Caprice, 2004 cargo truck, three generators, floor polisher, floor buffer, and a electric forklift. Revenue collected from the sale of the items will be placed toward the purchase of a new police vehicle.
Assistant Fire Chief and Public Works Director Anthony Lee reported the some members of the fire department attended the annual Dixie Fire School this past weekend. They also worked on the training hours for the State Fire Commission requirements. Lee thanked in the Muldraugh Baptist Church for hosting along with the 16 teams who participated in a recent 3 on 3 Basketball tournament which raised $1,005 for the fire department.
Lee reported sewer line project in the south end of the city is underway and expected to be done in phases to help with costs and to ensure the work is being done properly. Crews are continuing work along the South Main Street area of town.
The council has formed a committee comprised of Mayor Noon, Councilman Russel Cowins and City Clerk Caroline Cline to prepare an ordinance pertaining the Code Enforcement Board. The first draft of the ordinance is expected to be reviewed by the council in the coming months. The council also tabled action on repairs or replacement of the kitchen freezer after a quote of $10,284 was received to repair the unit. The council will continue to seek other bids on various options related to the freezer.
Mayor Noon presented news rules and guidelines for the use of the city gym and kitchen. The council unanimously approved the presentation.
Councilmen Cowins and Jerry Noel will work to plant a tree in front lot of the Community Safe Room. They also expect to plant a couple of dogwood trees in the front yard area of city hall. Councilman Robert Mattingly is working to bring a vet into town for a pet vaccination clinic. The clinic will be open to Muldraugh residents only on the tentative date of May 20 from 9 am until Noon.
The Muldraugh City Council is scheduled to meet next for their regular monthly meeting at 6:30 pm on April 10.
