
Meade County Fiscal Court took their meeting on the road to allow residents to have a community access to local leaders during the regular meeting time Tuesday (4/11) night.
The meeting was held at the Flaherty Fire Fire Department as an effort to allow citizens in the eastern and southern end of the county a close to home opportunity to bring issues to magistrates. During the public session two citizens voiced concerns about speed limits and road hazards in the neighborhoods.
During the business session, the court approved County Clerk Judy Jordan’s request of $900 for payment for Election Clerks and precinct workers for a special election to decide alcohol sales in the Guston precinct on May 23. Magistrates approved the proceeding with interviews to hire summer help at the county road department. They also voted approving a resolution and agreement for county road aid funds.
EMS Director Mike Wise reported to the court that the five new powered stretchers and three power power lifts were installed on March 20. A couple of minor glitches occurred while the factory technicians were on site but all of the problems have been taken care of a the new units are in full operation with no further problems. He also reviewed several report forms and said the ambulance service is set to make an estimate 3,600 runs this year.
Judge Executive Gerry Lynn asked the court to approve to seek bids to install 400 feet of drainage pipe and repaving of the main walk ways around the concession stand at Meade-Olin Park for a total estimated bid price of $50,000.
After a half hour closed session, magistrates approved issuing a request for proposal for the county trash collection. The request has to sent to the current contracted company a year before the current contract is completed. Fiscal Court is planning to rebid the trash collection contract a year from now. The court also approved Judge Executive Lynn to conduct a interview for a part time Planning & Zoning Administrator later this week during a work session of fiscal court.
Magistrates approved the appointment of Mitch Shortt to the Planing and Zoning Commission. The court approved the request of Stiles, Carter and Associates to conduct the current fiscal year budget audit. The proposal will have to be approved by the state.
