
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court reviewed bids during their regular meeting on Tuesday (5/9) night.
The court opened and reviewed four bids for purchase of road salt. After a review and discussion of the received bids, the court narrowed selection to WT Mineral, who had the lowest bid at $70.85 per ton; and Compass, who was the second lowest bidder with a price of $77.88 per ton. Magistrates directed Road Superintendent Jeff Padgett to look into the each of the bids for the answer to their questions and determine which was the best match for the county’s needs. The court opened and rejected the only bid received for a single axle 2018 Freightliner dump truck at a price of $103,534. After a lengthy discussion, the court decided to rebid the truck as a single and double tandem truck for comparison.
In other business, the fiscal court approved the lowest bid of just over $53,000 from Superior Seal Coating and Striping to resurface between the fields and concession stand of Meade-Olin Park. Magistrates approved a Cabinet of Technology and Department of Local Government data breach policy recommended by IT Director Joe Mangin. He said the county is ahead of the most of the policy with multi-layered firewall and monitoring hardware and software, but it does sure up some other areas add to the county’s network protection. He said that online phishing scams and robo hack attempts are becoming more common. He reported that month to day figures were an estimated 400 million hack attempts on the county’s digital infrastructure.
The Court approved a $3,000 funding request for the Kentucky Mesonet Station operated by Western Kentucky University. The local site located off of Molly Brown Road, continually monitors weather conditions and stores data that plug into a statewide network of sensors to help study and forecast local weather. Magistrates approved changing the the road name of Hardesty Lane to Hawkins Lane along with the approval to set the speed limit to 35 mph along Cherokee Lane.
Fiscal Court approved the appointments of Monica Pack to the Flaherty Fire Department Board of Trustees; Gary Miller to the Planning and Zoning Board of Adjustments; and Robert Stith to the Payneville Fire Department Board of Trustees. The Court approved the Meade County Sheriff’s Settlement of the 2015 taxes from the State Auditor office. They also approved the first reading of the proposed 2017-18 budget.
After a half hour closed session, Judge Executive Gerry Lynn reported the court to action to name Darrin Smiley as the Solid Waste Coordinator and Sam Prather as Recycling Manager. A full time position at the Solid Waste and Recycling Center will be posted fill the vacancy made by the promotion of Prather.
