Meade County Fiscal Court took a second approach at approving bids for the road department during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday (6/13) night.
County leaders opened bids for salt and a new dump truck during the regular May meeting which caused confusion and discussion among the members. Road Department Supervisor Jeff Padgett told Fiscal Court Tuesday night the decision was made to the second lowest bidder because there was no obligation to purchase a minimum amount of salt if it wasn’t needed.
Padgett presented state bid prices for a single and duel tandem dump truck along with the single bid opened at the May meeting. Magistrates had requested efforts to more bids for them to compare on each version of the proposed truck. Some magistrates questioned why to by a single axle dump truck instead of purchasing a bigger truck which could produce savings in fuel and time on projects. The court also pointed to the fact other counties in the area have triple tandem trucks in use. In May, Padgett expressed concerns with snow removal along with increased damage to county roads and weight limits issues if a bigger trucks were added to fleet.
After the second round of discussion of the topic, Fiscal Court voted 4 to 1 to purchase a new single tandem Freightliner dump truck at a cost of $103,534.
In other business, the court approved several board appoints which included: Darlene Lusk to the Flaherty Fire District Board; Lynn Biddle to the Battletown Fire District Board; Wesley Prather and Allen Stivers were reappointed to the Meade County Water District Board; Chris Logsdon and Carolyn Kindle were appointed to the Meade Fore Protection District Board; and Bill Wilson was reappointed to the Industrial Authority.
The court approved Prospect Lane as a private lane into the County E911 addressing system. They also approved the lowest bid from Scotty’s Paving of $101,903.74 to resurface courthouse parking lot. Magistrates approved the low financing rate of 2.30 percent from Meade County Bank for a new roll-off truck for the Solid Waste And Recycling Center as the lease program renews.
Fiscal Court approved the County Clerk certification of the Guston special local option election results from May 23. They also took a moment to discuss the proposed 2017-18 fiscal year budget. Judge Executive Gerry Lynn said that the proposed budget is basically the same as the current year budget that ends of June 30. He said the new budget includes a two percent pay increase for county employees which places it at $14.8 million.
Meade County Fiscal Court will have a special called meeting on Monday (6/26) at 6:30 pm in the courtroom for the second reading of the proposed budget to finalize the bills of the current budget.
