An Elizabethtown woman was arrested Friday (6/23) for driving under the influence after emergency crews rescued her and her daughter from a nearly submerged car, according Elizabethtown Police.
Rescue crews were called to the 200 block of Peterson Drive around 8 p.m. Friday night on a report of a vehicle had driven into floodwaters. Crews found a black Nissan Altima with 30 year-old Whitney Darst and her 4-year-old daughter stranded on the roof of the vehicle. The fire department used a raft to rescue them. Neither of them were injured in the incident.
Witnesses at the scene said they tried to stop Darst as her car was nearing the flooded area. Police said Darst appeared to be heavily intoxicated. She was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and first degree wanton endangerment.
