Hardin County emergency officials report a train derailment approximately three miles north of Elizabethtown near Colesburg.
According to a Hardin County Emergency Services received a call from CSX Railroad officials late Saturday (8/12) night about a mile and half south of the Colesburg crossing. Officials said the impact is isolated to the railroad where empty boxcars and car carriers jumped the tracks.
The train was carrying no hazardous materials and poses no threat to the public. No injuries were reported. The derailment is visible from Interstate 65, but is contained to the hillside near that railroad. Construction crews will be working off the south bound shoulder of I-65 near the 99 mile marker to remove debris from the derailment site.
