Parking will no longer be free at Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville.
On Wednesday (8/23), the Waterfront Development Corporation’s board voted to begin charging $3 for three hours of parking at all of its lots. Street parking will remain free.
Not everyone agreed. The board received nearly 200 emails, mostly opposed to the charge. Metro Council President David Yates said the whole council was opposed, along with Mayor Greg Fischer. David Karem said the source of the issue is a sudden lack of state funding. In 2016, Governor Matt Bevin vetoed a bill that would have provided $420,000 to the park.
Some council members said they will review the metro budget to see if they can help cover the parking cost.
