A variation of the “Grandparents” phone scam is hitting the area according to local police.
According to Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Department the would-be victims are being called and informed their grandchildren are being arrested and need $4,000 to get them out of jail.
Authorities advise to never act immediately in responding or agree to anything over the phone and/or contact the grandchild or another family member to see if there is a legitimate issue.
