
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court met Tuesday (9/12) evening and heard comments regarding road issue.
During the public session, Ekron resident Louie Latondress asked county leaders to have signs placed along the new section of Kentucky 313 that point the route to the Ekron community. Since the newer section of the highway opened, traffic has been reduced on what was once was the main thoroughfare where signs where placed to assist motorists. Latondress also requested the county to help with the effort and raise concern over confusion between the names of the final section of Kentucky 313 between the continuous name of Joe Prather Highway or local memorial designation. He also ask county leaders to work with the local health officials to place tougher enforcement on restaurant ratings.
Magistrates heard a proposal from David Hayden of Hayden Materials in Battletown regarding a possible public-private partnership for a seven mile section of Kentucky 228. The proposal would add the feet to the roadway along with over 8,000 feet of guardrail. Hayden asked county leaders to consider funding $370,000 to help provide the new surface of the roadway. The court took no action on the request.
In other business, the court approved the hiring of a full time secretary for the county road department. Magistrates approved an update to the standard operating procedures for the county EMS. County leaders approved the fiver year plan for the solid waste and recycling center. They also was made aware of a possible new contract with a Indiana waster hauler. If the proposed deal comes through the county could have a need for a second shift at the recycling center.
The court approved recommended road names from the County Addressing Coordinator Tom Bridge. Beach Cove Court was approved for a new development in Doe Valley. The new section of Highway 313 will continue the name Joe Prather Parkway for continuity along the new state route. Two new public access along the new section of Highway 313 were named Jewett Lane and Powell Lane in the area of Cedar Line Drive.
The court approved a bid of $27,919 for a new cargo van for the county detention center. They also approved the library tax rates which remained the same as last year.
