Fort Knox plans to close a 700-foot segment on northbound Wilson Road for repairs estimated to take two months.
Because of the repairs, motorists entering the post will be diverted into adjacent southbound lanes, requiring restrictions on that traffic as well. A release by the garrison command said speed limits will be reduced in the work zone. The post said repairs and related inconvenience are necessary to avoid a possible emergency and unscheduled closure in the future. The release describes deterioration of the road surface and slumping asphalt.
The construction, which begins Saturday, is expected to last two months. A second phase of work will follow in the spring on another segment of Wilson Road, the garrison command reports.
