
Members of the Brandenburg City Council had to table action of an amendment to the alcohol ordinance regarding holidays which fall on Sundays during their regular meeting Monday (11/13) night.
The council discussed and reviewed the issue whether to allow the sale of alcohol into the early morning hours of Sunday if that day is a holiday. Council members was asked to review this matter as some local business want to be open to celebrate the New Year’s holiday on Saturday, December 31 into Sunday, January 1. After their discussion the vote came up with two council members for the amendment and two against it and one abstained from the vote. One council member was absent from the meeting. The result of the vote caused the council to table further action until the December regular meeting.
In other business, the council approved the one time annual salary adjustment for city employees. Council members approved a quote totaling $9,500.00 from Pelton Environmental Products for the city’s waste water treatment plant.
Police Chief Scotty Singleton reported to the council that patrolman Greg Shipley resigned from the police department and Billy Richardson had been hired to fill the vacancy.
City leaders will conduct a public hearing related to the waste water treatment facility plan update at 6:30 pm on Monday, December 11 prior to the regular city council meeting.
