
Kentucky State Police received a report that a vehicle stolen in Hancock County was possibly in the Owensboro area.
Troopers located the vehicle on the US 60 bypass and conducted a traffic stop at the Hawesway Truck Stop Monday (11/20). The driver, Douglas Elwanger of Lewisport, exited the vehicle. He then reentered the vehicle and fled east on US 60. A female passenger exited the vehicle as Elwanger sped off. The pursuit ended approximately 1 mile west of Lewisport on US 60 when Elwanger pulled over and was taken in to custody.
Elwanger was lodged in the Daviess County Jail and charged with fleeing or evading, 1st degree; wanton endangerment 1st degree; resisting arrest; receiving stolen property, disorderly conduct, speeding, reckless driving, and operating a motor vehcile under the influence 1st Offense (aggravated circumstances).
Elwanger also had a McLean County bench warrant for failure to appear and was a fugitive from another State.
