
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court honored a fallen employee by approving a ordinance in his honor.
The first item of business for magistrates was the first reading of a ordinance to promote work safety in honor of Pius Gene Hobbs, who was killed as a result of accident while at work with County Road Department on December 13, 2016. The ordinance requires all flags to lowered to half staff on December 13 in honor of Hobbs and to promote work place safety. The ordinance will make this permanent remembrance for the community to remember and honor Hobbs. Because of the timing of the meetings and process to enact a ordinance, Judge Executive Gerry Lynn has issued a an Executive Order for December 13, 2017 to be Pius Gene Hobbs Day in Meade County and flags are to be lowered to half staff.
In other business, the court approved a resolution for the rural secondary road agreement which is allows the county to receive funding for roads from the state. They also approved the Mike Hubbard to the Planning and Zoning Commission to fill the remaining term of Julie Smith. County leaders approved the renewal of contracts for the county building and electrical inspectors. Emily Payne was hired as a full time position at Meade County EMS.
Fiscal Court approved a resolution in support of the Brandenburg Waste Water Treatment Plan Facilities Plan. Magistrates tabled a personnel policy amendment. Third District Magistrate Billy Sipes made a motion to setup a work session to discuss the garbage collection with Santek to continue to work out issues. The court approved the motion and set the work session to be held on Tuesday, January 2 at 7 pm.
