

Members of Meade County Fiscal Court honored two employees during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday (2/13) night.
Judge Executive Gerry Lynn presented a canvas art print to the family of Pius Gene Hobbs, a county road department employee, who was killed on the job in December 13, 2016. Fiscal Court heard and approved a second reading of an ordinance to declare December 13 as “Pius Gene Hobbs Day” in Meade County to spotlight the importance of work place safety. Flags are to be lowered to half staff that day each year as a tribute to Hobbs. Judge Executive Lynn also presented a plaque of recognition to Timmi Jupin for her 16 years of service to the county in the Judge Executive’s office after she resigned her position to spend more time with her children.
In other business, the court heard a presentation from Paul Sanders of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet regarding the county’s Rural Secondary Road Funds. This year’s fund for Meade County is $1,257,087 to resurface approximately 122 miles of state maintained roads in the county. Among the projects planned in the completion of resurfacing on Kentucky 228 to Pine Knob Road; Kentucky 941 between US 60 and Highway 144 in Ekron; Kentucky 2776 between US 60 and Kentucky 1816. Other paving projects include US 60 from Kentucky 1882 to US 31W; US 31W through Muldraugh and possibly Kentucky 1638 from US 31W to Buck Grove Road.
Magistrates approved the appointment of Louie LaTondress to the Ekron Fire Department Board and Larry Naser to fill the vacancy of Fire Fighter Trustee for the department. Meade County Sheriff William “Butch” Kerrick turned over $2,618.68 in excess fees to the county. Magistrates accepted the sheriff’s audit ending on December 31, 2016.
