Members of the Custer, Harned, and McDaniels Fire Departments were called to a report of a field fire at 206 Kenny Smallwood Lane.
Upon arrival firemen found multiple acres had burned with fire burning into a neighboring corn field. An estimated 15 to 20 acres burned before the fire was extinguished. The cause of the fire was due to burning brush in high wind conditions.
The Kentucky Division of Forestry also assisted at the scene. No injuries were reported and fire crews were on the scene about two and half hours.
As Custer Fire crews were dealing with the field fire, their department was called upon for another controlled burn which got out of control in the 17,000 block of Highway 690. Units from the McDaniels Fire Department provide mutual aid and extinguished the small fire in about 15 minutes.
