The Brandenburg City Council approved funding toward the design a possible sewer line expansion along a new section of industrial park property.
Industrial Authority Chairman David Pace met with the council about a half hour related to property acquisition for possible right of ways along Highway 933. The council returned from the closed session to approve a third of the funding for the design phase of possible sewer line extension to the new industrial area.
In other business, the council reviewed information provided by City Attorney Rachel Brown regarding the tax rates and increases in the insurance premium, occupational, hotel and restaurant taxes. The council discussed the possibility of increasing those taxes to support the expected increases of $70,000 in expenditures annually from the general fund. City leaders are looking to increase those taxes to five percent from the current rates that have been place since 1984. Council members requested additional information to move forward on the topic.
Mayor Ronnie Joyner reported to the council that the new water tower project is moving along. Crews should be completing the road boar and painting of the structure within the next few weeks.
