Two juveniles have been charged with drug trafficking and other charges after a dozen Grayson County High School students became ill after ingesting an unknown substance from a vaping device.
Leitchfield Police Department and EMS were called to Grayson County High School around 7:50 am Tuesday (10/16) after several students displayed extremely elevated blood pressure and heart rates. Authorities said at least twelve students had been using the substance and were experiencing the same symptoms. Three of the students were taken to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by Grayson County EMS and one was transported by private means where they were treated and later released.
Detective Kevin Smith said that based upon information obtained during the investigation, police learned that several students had been vaping from devices known as a “Dab Pen.” Police conducted a search at a residence in Leitchfield in reference to the incident and located more of the substance.
Two juveniles have been charged with twelve counts of trafficking in a controlled substance and twelve counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, with additional charges are pending.
The case remains under investigation by the Leitchfield Police Department and the Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force.
