City leaders and community members are mourning the loss of Brandenburg City Councilman Scotty Applegate.
Applegate died Tuesday (11/19) and had served the City of Brandenburg for a combined thirty six years. Applegate served as the mayor from 1983 through 1989, and from July to November of 1994. He served as a councilman from 2001 to present. Applegate also served on many committees throughout his years of service, and was an integral part of many city projects, including the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant, a new water treatment plant, a new water tower, and many other infrastructure improvements.
Brandenburg Mayor Ronnie Joyner has issued an executive order to have all flags in the city lowered to and flown at half staff in honor of Applegate until sunset on Sunday (11/24). Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 am at Brandenburg United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at the Bruington-Jenkins Funeral Home from 2 until 8 pm Friday (11/22).
