Breckinridge County Judge-Executive Maurice Lucas appointed William “Billy” Richardson as the interim Sheriff following the retirement of Todd Pate over the weekend.
Richardson will serve as Sheriff until a special election will be held with the November General Election. A former Deputy Sheriff and recently Brandenburg Police Officer, Richardson narrowly lost to Pate in the 2018 general election. The Breckinridge County Republican Party Executive Committee selected Richardson on Saturday (2/29) to serve as the GOP nominee for the vote.
Pate confirmed last week that he was retiring at the end of February after 17 years as Sheriff. He told his deputies to continue to serve the community as they have done in the past. Pate is facing charges in connection to an accident last year near North Fork that left a woman injured. A court hearing in the case is scheduled for later this month.
