A new round of protests began in Meade County Friday (6/12) night as a movement to support the latest call for Black Lives Matter resulted in about a dozen protesters to come to the Brandenburg Riverfront Park.
In messages distributed online, organizers from Indianapolis targeted the Confederate War Monument, which once stood at the University of Louisville campus and was relocated to the small river town in 2017. An assortment of freedom defenders met the protesters at the end of the street, just short of the monument entrance. Others lined the perimeter of the monument site in an effort to protect the statue and resist the outside influence.
The protest was overall peaceful and no arrests were made according to officials. A second night of protests is expected Saturday (6/13) night.
