
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court worked through several business items during their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday (7/14) evening.
The court appointed Magistrate Gary Chapman to lead the meeting in the absence of Judge Executive Gerry Lynn. The court heard comments from Bryan Zoeller of Frost Brown Todd, comment in favor of efforts of the county planning and zoning to work on drafting an ordinance related to how solar farms could be implemented into the growth of the county and area. Zoeller, who represents a California based solar energy company that is currently studying area along the Meade-Breckinridge County line for a 1 mega-watt farm to produce electricity separate from Big Rivers. A location was not disclosed but during the discussion the size of the site would be around 250 acres in order to install the right amount of solar equipment. Fiscal court will review the draft document and discuss the language during future meetings.
The court voted to seek bids on a new ambulance for the county’s EMS service. They also approved renewing a year service agreement of $6,712 for Tango Tango emergency communication system that approximately thirty county first responders use on their cell phones along with the county radio system. Magistrates discussed and approved a rezoning request from B-1 to R-1 at 3920 Flaherty Road. They also discussed proposed amendments to the Planning and Zoning ordinance. Among the five amendments, a request to have a demolition permit has drawn the most attention from magistrates. Planning and Zoning Director Karen Goodin, said at the June meeting, the reason for creating the demolition permit was because of hazardous materials. Some of the fees updates and are also pause with some magistrates. County Attorney Jessica Roberts asked the court if they would prefer the ordinance amendment to be broken down into separate ordinances, to allow a more specific review of the documents.
Fiscal court voted to remove a spur of Valentine Drive from the County Road system, which was isolated after the Kentucky 313 project. The court approved two easement amendments related to Nucor Steel.
