Members of Brandenburg City Council heard the first reading of tax rates during their regular monthly meeting Monday (9/14) night.
Mayor Ronnie Joyner recommended the compensating rate for 2020-2021 tax year which sets the rate for real property at .226 cents per $100 of accessed value; .4773 cents per $100 of value on personal property and 32.80 cents on motor vehicles and watercraft within the city. The council will have a special called meeting at Noon Wednesday (9/16) at Brandenburg City Hall to conduct the second reading of the tax ordinances.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mayor Joyner read a resolution honoring Meade County Judge Executive Gerry Lynn, who passed away on Sunday (9/6). The council approved two other resolutions related to the bonds for the new waste water treatment plant and CARES act funding related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The council approved the reappointment of David Pace to the Industrial Authority. Pace reported to the council that construction was well underway on the Nucor project as a large concrete slab and flooring has been poured for their office and receiving areas. He said that pylons are also being drove into the ground for the building. Council members heard a presentation from Randee Norris regarding new playground equipment in the Riverfront Park. The council discussed some aspects of the equipment and the issues related to the flooding potential in the park.
Peggy Higbee received the September Yard of The Month award. Mayor Joyner reported that the Main Street side walk project is still working as easements for utility right of ways are still being obtained by Louisville Gas & Electric. He hopes bids for the project will happen by the end of the calendar year. The council set Trick or Treat hours in the city of Brandenburg to be between 5:30 until 8 pm on October 31. Mayor Joyner said that parents and residents could decide if that want to participate due to the COVID-19 pandemic at their own will.
