
The Brandenburg City Council met during their regular monthly meeting Monday (4/12) night.
Council members voted unanimously to approve a rezoning request made the city planning commission to change the zoning at Maple Grove Apartments from R2 to R3 to reflect the usage of the property compared to the city plan. The council approved the reappointment of Bryan Claycomb to another three year term to the Industrial Authority. Claycomb, who is a member of the city council abstained from the vote.
In other business, Mayor Ronnie Joyner reported that work is progressing on the new wastewater treatment plant. Crews have been able to complete a large section of concrete for one of the new basins. Joyner also reported that work is slowly moving on the Main Street sidewalk project as the city continues to wait for the final paperwork from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. He said that the project bids will be sought as soon as the approve is granted.
Public Works Director, T.J. Hughes reported that the new playground equipment has been delivered but additional site work was needed before the equipment could be installed. The site work has been completed and now a reschedule of the installation is being worked on. Hughes asked the council for a replacement of a section of water line along Old Ekron Road between Broadway and Lusk Streets. The section of line has encounter several water leaks and he wants to increase the size to help ease the issues in the line. The council approved the request at an estimated cost of $10,000.
The council briefly discussed finishing a paving project at Nichol Park. The city had begun to update the park and planed to resurface the basketball court but the project ran out of funding to complete. The city will seek updated bids for the project.
Mayor Joyner asked the council what their level of comfort would be to bring their meetings back to city hall. The council agreed to the idea, which place their next regular in May back to City hall for the first time since last May.
