
Police are investigating a murder in Flaherty after a welfare check discovered a dead female.
The Meade County Sheriff’s Department conducted a welfare check at a residence in the 3300 block of Woodland Avenue Friday (5/21) morning. The deputy discovered a dead female inside the residence with apparent stab and gun shot wounds.
Kentucky State Police troopers and detectives were called to assist the Meade County Sheriff’s Department resulting in the the female being identified as 65 year-old Cris Blehar of Vine Grove, who was pronounced dead by the Meade County Coroner.
The preliminary investigation determined that Blehar had been murdered and a suspect was developed. The suspect, Tyler Petty, age 18 of Vine Grove, was located at a nearby residence. During an interview with State Police, he stated that he had killed Blehar by stabbing her and then shooting her with a rifle. He then covered the body with cloths and left the scene with the rifle.
Petty is charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence. Petty was lodged in the Meade County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond. The case remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police.
