Members of Meade County Fiscal Court worked through a shorter agenda of the current term Tuesday (3/14) night.
No public comments allowed the Fiscal Court to move into their business session. They approved the Meade County Clerk’s 2022 Excess Fees. The court also approved the 2021 tax audit report for the Meade County Sheriff’s settlement. The court voted in favor to approve the Code of Conduct Disclosure Form for employees. They also approved a resolution to use ARPA funds for appliances, equipment and payments related to approved ongoing projects for Dispatch, Parks, and a storage building at the Solid Waste and Recycling Center.
Judge Executive Troy Kok discussed with magistrates the need for a Grant Writer for the county. He said there are several grants that are available but currently the staff doesn’t have time to seek grants. He said the position would be a performance driven, and the successful candidate would be managing the obtained grants to ensure all of the terms are met. Fourth District Magistrate Gary Chapman asked if the attendance of Fiscal Court meeting could be added to the job description to allow the court a progress report on efforts. After further discussion, the court voted in favor of proceeding to advertise and begin the hiring process for the new position.
Fiscal Court approved the appointments of Jess Mills, Greg Whelan, Ethan Mattingly, Vanessa Egert, and Brent Gardner to the newly formed Code Enforcement Board. The court opened to sealed bids for a new backhoe for the county Road Department. They approved the lowest bid based upon review of bids to ensure compliance to the bid specs.
Judge Kok read a proclamation designating April 9-15 as Telecommunicator Week in Meade County to honor the Dispatchers in the county E911 Center. The Court tabled the second reading of the Solid Waste Collection ordinance due to ongoing discussions to resolve issues with the current contractor. Magistrates went into a closed session to discuss the real property. The court returned after nearly a half hour to take no action from the executive session.
