
Meade County Fiscal Court voted to take the compensating rate as they set tax rates during their regular meeting Tuesday (8/12).
Magistrates approved a tax rate of 21.10 cents per $100 of assessed value on Real Property and 29.53 cents per $100 of assessed value on personal property. They also kept the inventory tax rate at 19.00 cents. The court voted to set the 2026 motor vehicle and watercraft tax rate at 13.40 cents per $100 of assessed value.
Fiscal Court approved the reappointment of Dale Funk to the Meade County Brandenburg Industrial Authority and Larry Mofield to the Meade County Fire District. They approved a single bid from Midway Petroleum for bulk fuel for the county departments. The court approved the only received bid from Scotty’s Contracting for a 20×30 foot pavilion at Otter Creek Park for a cost of $39,100. They approved an attendance policy and contracts for Meade County EMS.
Magistrates approved an agreement to auction three roll off trucks at the Solid Waste and Recycling Center. The agreement guarantees the county would receive at least $510,000 for the current trucks. The court opened and approved the lowest bid for financing 3 new trucks for the Solid Waste and Recycling Center in the amount of $730,000. The bid will be award to the lowest bidder between Cecilian Bank, Wesbanco and Meade County Bank. The court voted to approve the purchase price difference of $4,815.40 for a new forklift for the Recycling Center. The remainder or the purchase price of $45,622 was covered by grants funding.
County Leaders approved accepting several private roads from Kentucky Land Company into the county road system. The accepted road include: Gene Lane; McGehee Court; Gordon Drive; Reuben Lane; Mandan Court; Shelbi Drive; Hadley Court; Addison Court; Brinlee Drive; Kenzi Court; Londyn Lane; and McDonald Drive. The roads have been constructed to current road standard by contractors hired by the developer and the county will assume the regular maintenance upon their adaption into the county system.
During the public session, Pat Waldrip addressed magistrates concerning the impacts of heavy smoke at the county burn pile. He said that smoke was consistently in his Bud Wilson Road residence and causing issues including difficulty breathing. Judge Executive Troy Kok said that a meeting would be set up with him to determine a possible resolution. Steve Straney represented the Meade County History Museum provide county leaders with additional information related to funding needs and assistance for the volunteer organization’s needs concerning their current location’s rent. Straney said conversation with the landlord determined that the facilities rent will increase and museum leaders are wanting to enlist additional space which would increase the monthly rental to $2500. The current location is a historical site as is a former school and in previous decades the public library. Straney asked the court for guidance and assistance to determine the best option for the museum. Currently the county provides the museum $20,000 for rent and utilities. The City of Brandenburg also provides funding to assist with expenses.
Meade County Chamber and Tourism Director Lisha Duke provided an update on activities for both organization. She asked the court to provide Tourism with larger allotment of funds to assist with better record keeping and bill payments for reimbursements funds that are budgeted. She said the effort would reduce the number of needed transfers between the chamber and tourism accounts to pay bills each quarter or immediately after events. She said in her short time of being director her focus was to operate the same funding as last year as she plans to ensure the needed functions of current platforms to promote the county.
Magistrates voted to table a fee schedule for the Planning and Zoning. The Court wanted additional time to review the updates and addition fees and is expected to take action during their September regular meeting.
