
The Brandenburg City Council set tax rates on real and personal property during their regular meeting Monday (9/8) night.
The council heard the second reading of an ordinance to adapt the compensating rate which provided the lower rates on real property at 0.172 cents per $100 of assessed value and 0.3206 cents per $100 on personal property for the 2025 tax year. The 2024 tax rates were at 0.191 cents per $100 of assessed value and 0.3965 cents per $100 on personal property. The council also approved the 2026 motor vehicle watercraft tax rate which remained the same at 32.80 per $100 of assessed value.
In other business, council members heard and approved the first reading of an ordinance to rezone the Adkisson property at 276 River Cliff Boulevard from R-1 to R-3. A second reading is expected at their next regular meeting. The council recognized Amanda Thomas with the Yard of The Month award.
Mayor David Pace announced that City Hall will close at 11 AM on Wednesday (9/11) to allow the entire city staff to attend CPR training. He also announced the first annual Brandenburg Pumpkin Walk at the Buttermilk Falls Trail on October 23rd, 24th and 25th. A community is invited to come on Thursday, October 23 from 5 until 7:30 pm to paint or carve pumpkins that will be displayed along the Buttermilk Falls Trail for the event. The city will provide pumpkins, paint, brushes, popcorn, and drinks. Participants need to bring carving tools.
