The Kentucky Court of Appeals is set to review the conviction of one of the men found guilty in the murder of Crystal Rogers.
Steve Lawson was sentenced last August to 17 years in prison for conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence.
In an appeal filed in May, Lawson’s attorneys asked for his conviction to be overturned because he was offered immunity. But prosecutors argued Lawson gave inconsistent statements.
Lawson’s attorneys are also challenging evidence in the case, and claim the jury was given improper instructions.
Lawson’s son, Joseph Lawson, was sentenced last September to 25 years in prison on his conviction of conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence. He appealed his conviction in April. He stood trial with Brooks Houck, Rogers’ boyfriend who was with her at the time of her disappearance. Houck was sentenced to life in prison on his conviction of murder (principal or accomplice to the crime) and complicity tampering with physical evidence. Houck filed an appeal with the Kentucky Supreme Court in May.
Steve Lawson was tried separately.
