The Muldraugh City Council discussed several items at their regular monthly meeting Monday evening.
Police Chief Charlie Ashbaugh advised the council the department currently has one officer on leave with the possibility of not being able to return to work in the near future. Therefore, the department is accepting applications for a full time certified police officer.
Fire Chief Danny Dresel advised the council the ISO fire inspection had to be postponed until January 26 due to the inspector’s schedule. He also said the Muldraugh Baptist Church had approached him concerning having a 3 on 3 slam basketball tournament as a fundraiser for the fire department. The tournament will be held Saturday, February 6, in the Muldraugh City Gym. The sign in time will start at 4:30 p.m. and the tournament will begin at 5. The entry cost will be $25. All proceeds will go to the Muldraugh Fire Department. The auxiliary will be sponsoring a Chili Supper Friday, February 12. The cost will be $4 for adults and $3 for children.
Public Works Supervisor Anthony Lee advised the council the new fire hydrants are in and will be replaced as soon as possible when the weather permits.
The council discussed the future of the city owned building at 702 South Dixie Highway, formerly the Pizza Hut building. Bobby Patel answered questions from the council concerning the lease of the building for a liquor store. Patel would like to lease the building on a one year agreement with the option to renew on a 3 to 5 year agreement. After some discussion and hearing answers from Patel, the council decided to consult their legal council to assist in their decision making process for the building.
Muldraugh resident, Louis Holston, Jr., addressed the council concerning a $3,000 bill from Service Pro for the cleanup of sewer back up in his basement. It has been determined Holston’s property was not connected to the new sewer system by the contractor, TSI Paving from Indiana, several months ago when the sewer in the south end of the city was renovated. After hearing Holston’s complaint, Mayor Noon said he would contact the city’s insurance company about the issue since the contractor is no longer in business. Holston’s property has been properly connected to the current sewer system.
After much discussion, the council voted 4 to 2 to purchase a new 2015 Ford F350 dually from Knox Ford in Radcliff in the amount of $35,895 to be used by the water and sewer department.
