Muldraugh City Council worked through a lengthy agenda Monday evening at their regular monthly meeting.
During the public session Russell Cowins, on behalf of the Citizens of Muldraugh, thanked several individuals for their hard work and dedication in the 3 fish fries held recently. The $1,974 raised during those fish fries will all go to the Radcliff Veterans Center. Donations are still being accepted to help with the project.
Police Chief Charlie Ashbaugh introduced Harold Parente as the new Muldraugh Police Officer. Parente has several years of experience as a law enforcement officer. Chief Ashbaugh reported most of the items that had been deemed surplus had sold and the money had been applied to paying off police vehicles. He also requested permission to surplus any vehicles or items that is not being used and has been in the department’s inventory for at least a year with the proceeds going to pay off the other police vehicle. Any additional proceeds would be credited to the police department’s account and will be used to replace equipment as needed. The council unanimously approved the request.
Assistant Fire Chief Anthony Lee advised the council the repairs had been completed on the 1999 Custom fire truck and the transmission service is due on both fire trucks, which is expected to be done in the near future.
Public Works Supervisor Anthony Lee advised the council some sewer problems have developed along Dixie Highway and along Ball Street. A camera will be used to locate the problem and repairs will be made accordingly. He said the hydrant parts for the fire hydrant on New Street were in and that repair will be made this week. Lee also requested to surplus 2 trucks that are no longer being used and the proceeds go toward the payments on the two replacement trucks that were purchased last month. He reminded the council mowing season is expected to start around the third week of April and he suggested to hire the same person that has been doing it as a temporary employee. Councilman Corey Dresel asked about the possibility of fixing the sidewalk behind Golden Manor. Lee said he would investigate the cost of repairs and report back to the council.
In old business, Mayor Joseph Noon advised the council it will cost $1,500 to have the city property at 702 South Dixie Highway appraised. The council has discussed the fate of the property for several months and has decided to get an appraisal on the property and then advertise it for lease or sale.
In new business, Councilman Russell Cowins introduced an ordinance that would increase the council members pay if passed.
Councilman Corey Dresel reported the festival committee had met and are pursuing various entertainments for the 3 day Muldraugh Down Home Days to be held on September 29 through October 1.
The council voted to appoint Karie Lykins Chairperson of the Muldraugh Planning and Zoning with Henry Bailey and Jerry Noel serving as commissioners.
Due to unexpected excess expenditures in sewer repairs, the sewer repair and maintenance account is just over $28,500 over budget. City Clerk Caroline Cline requested the council to approve transferring $15,000 from the Sewer Surcharge Fund to the Water and Sewer account to help defray the excess expenses. After some discussion, the council unanimously approved the transfer of funds.
Clerk Cline asked the council to approve the temporary hiring of Beatrice Heil to help with office duties while Deputy Clerk Ziggy Lowe is off a few weeks on medical leave. The council unanimously gave their approval.
