
Spectators headed to Churchill Downs for this year’s Kentucky Oaks and Derby need to be aware of what is and isn’t allowed to be taken into the track.
All spectators will go through security gates and are subject to be scanned by magnetic wands.
Food and non-alcoholic drinks will be allowed but food items must be in clear plastic bags. The maximum size of those bags is 18 inches by 18 inches.
Box lunches in clear bags as well as water and soft drinks in sealed, clear and unopened plastic bottles will be allowed.
Purses must not exceed 12 inches in any dimension and are subject to search and a diaper bag only if accompanied by a child.
Other items permitted are: Small cameras; Sunscreen; Small personal music systems, radios and televisions; Cell phones and tablets; Seat cushions smaller than 15 inches by 15 inches that do not contain metal arms and/or backs, zippers, pockets or flaps; Strollers (if carrying a child); Chairs (Gate 3 only); Blankets and tarps (Gates 1 and 3 only).
Items that are banned are: Coolers; Cans; Pop-up tents; Laptop computers and camcorders; Cameras with detachable lenses or equipped with a lens that is 6 inches or larger; Tripods; Selfie sticks; Grills; Alcoholic beverages; Illegal substances; Thermoses; Backpacks; Luggage; Duffel bags; Wagons; Umbrellas; Weapons (including knives); Fireworks, noisemakers, air horns, laser lights; Mace or pepper sprays; Drones; Hoverboards; Animals (with the exception of service animals for people with disabilities); Any items deemed dangerous and/or inappropriate.
