The Muldraugh City Council discussed expenditures at their regular monthly meeting Monday evening.
Police Chief Charlie Ashbaugh asked the council to assist the department by reporting any juveniles roaming the streets after curfew. He said the police will be enforcing the city curfew in full force especially during the summer months.
Fire Chief Danny Dresel advised the council the expense of safety equipment for the fire department was somewhat more expensive than he had stated last month. He advised the council the department is eligible to apply for state aid. The equipment would include a generator for one of the fire trucks, 7 sets of turnout gear and extrication tools for a total of $48,667. The city would be responsible for 25 percent of the price of the equipment. After much discussion, the council authorized the Mayor to apply for a loan for $9,733.49.
Public Works Supervisor Anthony Lee advised the council of a major repair needed at the Harris Street sewer lift station. Lee said both pumps at that location needs to be repaired and the discharge pipe has broken loose from the pump base floor. The cost to repair the pumps will be approximately $7,000 while the repairs to the discharge pipe and the pump base floor are yet to be determined. The sewer will have to be re-routed while the lift station is being inspected and repaired. Lee advised the total cost of repairs to that station could be approximately $30,000 depending on what has caused the discharge pipe to break loose from the pump base floor. After some discussion, the council voted to spend up to $25,000 from the Bond & Interest Sinking Fund on the repairs.
The council voted to send a lease agreement to the city attorney for review concerning city property at 702 South Dixie Highway.
The citizens of Muldraugh will be able to grow vegetables again this year in the community garden. The garden has been tilled and will be ready for planting in a few days.
