Kentucky State University says it is waiving applications fees and offering incentive tuition scholarships for students at St. Catharine College, which is closing this summer.
KSU said in a statement students who want to transition there will be offered a $900 scholarship in addition to a book stipend for an academic year.
The financially strapped St. Catharine College announced last week it would close at the end of July. Officials at the small Catholic school in central Kentucky blamed a dispute over federal education funding for “unsurmountable” challenges posed by shrinking enrollment and debt.
Kentucky State University in Frankfort was spared from a recent round of funding cuts imposed by Governor Matt Bevin that asked the state’s universities to cut a percentage of their budgets.
