A Louisville police officer is in stable condition after being shot late Saturday night.
Officer Kyle Carrol was shot while in pursuit of a suspect near 23rd and Magazine streets in the Russell neighborhood. Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad said while Carrol was patrolling the area around 11 p.m., Carrol recognized 22 year-old Jacquan Crowley as someone he had previously arrested. He then pursued him, first in his patrol car, then on foot, before being shot in the chest. The bullet hit Carrol’s bulletproof vest.
A fellow officer rushed Carrol to University Hospital for treatment.
Conrad said Louisville Metro Police officers are searching for Crowley, who is described as a 5-foot-11, 135-pound African-American man with long dreadlocks.
Crowley has multiple active warrants for numerous offenses some of which include promoting contraband, fleeing and evading, tampering with physical evidence, trafficking in marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, among others. There is now a warrant out for attempted murder of a police officer due to Saturday night’s shooting incident.
Conrad urged anyone with information on Crowley’s whereabouts to call MetroSafe at 574-7111.
