The Jefferson County coroner’s office has identified a woman who died following a kayaking accident in Louisville.
Fern Creek Fire Chief Mike Schmidt, Jr. tells local news outlets the incident occurred Wednesday night at The Parklands of Floyds Fork. The woman, her 10-year-old grandson and her sister were in a kayak when they hit a tree stump, causing the kayak to overturn.
Emergency crews responded and found the three stranded on the water. The woman was transported to a hospital where she died.
The coroner’s office said Thursday 55-year-old Sandra K. Mills of Shepherdsville died of natural causes and did not drown.
The woman’s sister and grandson were treated at the scene of the accident.
