After being closed for more than six years, the beach at Barren River Lake State Resort Park reopened Friday afternoon.
The beach was closed in 2010 after flood waters caused the beach sand to all but diminish.
Thanks to $12,000 in funding from the Glasgow-Barren County Tourist and Convention Commission, the beach is in better condition than ever before.
The beach is a ‘Swim at your own risk’ zone, meaning no lifeguards are on duty.
Safety equipment and an emergency phone are close by, and park rangers patrol the area every couple of hours.
There is no admission fee to enter the beach, making it ideal for all families to enjoy.
The park is currently anticipating an extremely busy holiday weekend, weather permitting.
