Before voting on hearing the second reading of Ordinance 349 concerning the 2016-2017 fiscal year budget, Councilman Robert Mattingly told the council he had studied the budget and the employee pay plans since the last attempt to pass the new budget and suggested all city employees get a pay increase of 25 cents per hour. Mattingly made that in form of a motion but the motion failed for a lack of a second. A vote was taken to hear the second reading of the ordinance and failed by a 2 to 3 vote, therefore, the council has not approved a budget for the 2016-2017 fiscal year.
City Clerk Caroline Cline advised the council she has received a notification the audit company, that has in the past done the auditing of the city’s financial records, will no longer be doing city audits. Cline had presented a bid proposal to the council members from Blue & Company and advised the council that 2 of the auditors that had been with the previous company is now working for Blue & Company. After a brief discussion, the council unanimously voted to accept the bid $7,300 from Blue & Company to do the audit of the city’s financial records.
