A Glasgow man is arrested after hitting an Amish buggy at Thursday night in the 9000 block of Tompkinsville Road in Barren County.
The Barren County Sheriff’s Department says 28 year-old Matthew Stout was driving his pickup when he struck an Amish buggy in the rear, throwing both people from the buggy.
Ira Borntreger, 41, and Laura Borntreger, 45, both of Glasgow were taken to TJ Samson Hospital. Laura Borntreger was in stable condition. Ira Borntreger was taken to UofL Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
Deputies say they smelled alcohol on Stout and he admitted he had been drinking prior to the wreck, and said he didn’t see the Amish buggy in front of him. Police say an open container of beer was found inside of Stouts truck.
Stout was arrested and charged with two counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st degree, Possession of an Open Alcohol Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle Prohibited, and Operating a Motor Vehicle under the Influence of Alcohol .08 (Aggravated Circumstance) 1st Offense. He was lodged in the Barren County Detention Center.
