A fire at an Elizabethtown plant in the industrial park on Ring Road caused a brief disruption in production Wednesday evening.
According to Elizabethtown Deputy Chief Everett Roberts, the fire began in the friction department in the hot press area of Akebono Brake Corporation at 6:31 p.m. and employees who noticed the fire activated the alarm.
When firefighters arrived, employees had been evacuated and smoke was reported coming from the north end of the building.
Everett said the sprinkler system was activated and firefighters accessed the building to extinguish flames and its roof to verify it had not spread through the ventilation system using a thermal imaging system. According to Everett, 16 firefighters and three trucks responded to the scene.
No injuries were reported and the fire was under control and extinguished by 7 p.m.
Workers were allowed back into the plant, which produces advanced brake and friction material development and production, around 7:30 p.m.
Hardin County EMS and the Ameri¬can Red Cross also assisted at the scene.
