A Kentucky inmate alleges in a lawsuit a deputy jailer ordered inmates to beat him because he had dated the deputy’s wife.
Joshua Reece had accused Shelby County deputy jailer William Anthony Carey of directing about a dozen inmates to beat him for hours until he lost consciousness.
The lawsuit, filed against the county and several Shelby County Detention Center employees Thursday, also said Reece wasn’t immediately taken for medical treatment after the attack and nurses at the jail generally ignored his pleas for treatment.
Reece said he suffered multiple fractures to the head. He eventually underwent corrective surgery.
Carey was later fired and pleaded guilty to complicity to assault and official misconduct.
