Ford Louisville Assembly Plant has shut down due to slowing auto sales.
The company decided to idle production to compensate for an oversaturation of its Ford Escape and Lincoln MKC SUVs in the market.
The shutdown means more than 4,000 Ford Louisville Assembly Plant employees will not report to work the weeks of October 17 and October 31.
Escape sales are up 1 percent through September of this year, compared to a record year in 2015. Escape sales totaled 234,764 vehicles through September, 2016. Lincoln MKC sales are up 3 percent through September of this year with 18,786 vehicles sold.
Ford is also idling the F-150 factory near Kansas City and two plants in Mexico that make the Fusion sedan and Fiesta subcompact.
