A woman was killed and another was injured early Saturday morning after they were struck by a truck as they stood next to their vehicle, which had been involved in a separate crash moments earlier.
The accidents happened at Outer Loop and Grade Lane around 5:30 a.m. Saturday. The Louisville Metro Police Department said the two women were in a Dodge Caliber traveling westbound on the Outer Loop when they collided with a Volkswagen Jetta that was turning onto the Outer Loop from Grade Lane. Following the collision the Caliber came to rest in the eastbound lane of the Outer Loop.
According to the LMPD Traffic Unit, the two women in the Caliber exited their vehicle and were standing next to it when a Chevy 1500 truck, which was traveling eastbound on the Outer Loop, struck the women and their vehicle. The passenger of the Caliber was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was transported to University Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the truck fled the scene on foot.
The Louisville Metro Police Department has identified the driver of the truck and the investigation is continuing with charges pending.
