A man has been arrested in West Virginia on charges of killing a 14-year-old Kentucky boy on Thanksgiving.
Lexington, Kentucky, police spokeswoman Brenna Angel said in a news release that 23-year-old Kevin J. Garcia was arrested Friday by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in West Virginia. Police say Garcia has been charged with murder.
The victim, Angel Juarez, was shot multiple times Thursday evening when he answered his front door. The police spokeswoman said the shooting stemmed from an earlier dispute between Garcia and the victim’s older brother. Investigators say Garcia went to the house Thursday to confront the older brother when Angel opened the door and was shot.
Police were called to the house at 10:50 p.m. on Thanksgiving where officers found Angel with multiple gunshots to his upper torso.
Juarez died at 11:29 p.m. Thursday at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, according to the Fayette County coroner’s office.
The police statement said Garcia is being held in the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville, West Virginia, and will be extradited back to Lexington.
