A Louisville mother is facing charges after police say she left her three young children at home alone, prompting one of the children to knock on a neighbor’s door and say “momma left me.”
Mercedes Nicole Cannon, 25, was arrested and charged with three counts of abandonment of a minor after officers found her children unattended in the family’s apartment early Tuesday morning.
Louisville Metro police say a neighbor called authorities after one of Cannon’s children, a 3-year-old, knocked on her door.
The other children are 21 months old and 8 months old.
Authorities say Cannon later returned, telling them she left the home Monday night, leaving the children unattended with the apartment door unlocked.
The children were placed in the custody of a relative.
